How to Choose the Right Adhesion Level for Metal Surface Protection

Too little adhesion lets the film lift; too much leaves residue. Here is a practical guide to getting it right.

How to Choose the Right Adhesion Level for Metal Surface Protection

For metal sheets, plastic parts and glass, acrylic PET protective films typically range from 5 to 1,500 g/in. Low adhesion (5–50 g/in) suits smooth, low-energy surfaces and short-term protection.

Medium adhesion (50–300 g/in) is the workhorse for processing and transport of stainless steel and aluminum profiles. High adhesion (300–1,500 g/in) is reserved for rough or heavy-gauge surfaces and long storage.

Always validate with a sample under your actual conditions — temperature, dwell time and surface finish all shift the effective peel strength and residue behavior.
